I want to say sorry to all the people I haven't been in contact with of late. It has been a crazy couple of weeks that are far from over. I recently lost my father and things will be on hold for a short period while we sort everything out. HE was a big personality and really supportive of what i do and what i am trying to achieve. Thank you Dad for this life.
I do have some things i am working on that are really exciting but will need to sit on hold for now. i will be back soon. i promise. Well, we got the first real good test of the jet luge done. It lasted all of about 10 minutes before the engine overheated and we blew the brand new impeller we just spent $500 on. but the good news is we have learnt from that expensive mistake and we are building a new larger power turbine which will help the engine breath better and increase the power by about 30%. the dam board already was hooting along so next time it will be awesome! Just a side note. The turbine actually got so hot it melted some braising welds we did. the highest temp we got before the temp gauge failed was 1343 Degrees Celsius. Which is a little over the average running temp for a turbine. which for this one usually sits at around 550 to 580 Degrees Celsius. Unfortunately it means even more delays. but i expected this sort of thing. we are building something no one else in the world has ever built. so moving on and forwards. i hope you enjoy some of the pictures of the aftermath. unfortunately we had the camera filming the board fail on us and didn't get the self destruction. With the first test of the new board completed we now have time to go over and fine tune the things we discovered. the throttle was a major issue that needed fixing. we then found the oil we are running is a little too thin. the battery was a little underpowered and being a LiPo decided it's time on this earth was done and wanted to do it's best impression of a balloon. We still have a lot of work to do but the board is rideable and i will be doing a lot of testing before we finalise the end product. During some down time we will replace some bearing make sure the turbines injectors are fueling just right.
But for those of you who don't read, here's a pretty picture of the first test of the new board. One thing that needed attention during the testing yesterday was a stable throttle control. First we had to work out the best position for the throttle. then it was a matter of working out where idle was compared to full throttle. Dave completely made the entire throttle control up from scratch, so as basic as it looks, there is a huge amount of man hours involved in it. Almost nothing on the board is store bought and has been built from the ground up. Yesterday, marked the first real test of the new jet luge. it has been a very very long time in the building. The test was very successful, specially compared to past tests. the board will require some more fine tuning, but that is why we do the tests. i can not go into to much detail as yet. but i promise good things are on the way. i leave you with the first peak of the board after it's first road test.
For those of you who periodically check the blog from time to time. thank you. For those of you who have stumbled upon it. Welcome.
It's been a really busy and long year for me, with very little to no down time. i have been very hard at work getting the jet luge going and i do have some big changes and probably an even bigger surprise on the way. i can't say or show to much yet. but i will leave you with a small picture of the main switch board for the jet luge. stay tune and i promise there will be some excitement on the way. I recently did a Q & A on Reddit.com and had a blast doing it. below are some of the questions and answers for those of you who missed it. not all the questions are nice, but then again i don't always give the best replies. this is just peoples minds laid to bare on a website.....scary huh!?! I recently did an interview on the Channel Sevens national Sunrise program in Australia. you can see the results below. please understand it has taken a lot of people and a lot of work to get the board to where it is today. without the help of these amazing people and their services i would be nowhere. i can't thank them enough and i really wished i could of had them all on the show with me. i hope you enjoy it. Great new everyone! the Farnsworth mobile, better known as the Jet Luge. will be featured on Channel 7's Sunrise program on Monday 16th June. It will be on between 7:30 and 8:30am it will only be quick so don't blink. I'm currently rushing to try get decals done and some jet luge t'shirts as well, so I don't look like a complete yobbo, only half of one.
any way enjoy the mockup photos of the board below. hey guys
I'm doing a AMA on reddit.com right now in /r/IAmA You'll know me as Dazthecowboy. ask me anything and find out why. here's a link http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/26qxlp/im_going_to_break_a_guinness_land_speed_record_on/ |
