Trucks and wheels, Trucks and wheels my kingdom for Trucks and wheels!!!!

You know i had a great weekend this weekend, i spent it in great reflection on how (in years gone past) easy it was to get a set of Randal 205 luge trucks, back then everyone was getting a set, all my friends i rode with had them, even the new guys wanting the best stuff but not being able to use it properly yet had them, me, well i was like, i'll get them eventually, i like my Indy 215's, i like the classics i'd say "but these are the latest thing and the best Daz" they'd say, nah i'm cool, i wasn't and i am less cool now, but at that time i never thought i'd be wanting to or needing to put them on a board i want to take over 200kph, these trucks have been my single biggest hurdle when it comes to finalizing the design of the board, you see, some people my think it's the width of the truck i'm after, but in actual fact i require the security of the extra set of bearings that are used inside the truck, you see if i have a bearing failure at speed i would enjoy knowing i still have an entire bearing set to support that failure and give me time to come to a safe stop, now in saying that, it all works well in theory but a full floating axle and an extra set of bearings will help if not prevent and reduce the risk of wheel lockup and or bearing failure, keeping temperatures down and basically making higher speeds that little bit safer, i know as much as the next guy, if not in some cases more, what the dangers are of pushing luge equipment to these speeds are, the fastest i have ever gone clocked on a GPS was 137kph, but what i did not plan for was not being able to get the equipment i want hehe, i need help big time in this area in finding these 205 trucks and so the search continues :)

which brings me to the wheels, now i have a few wheels in mind that i would like to run and i will be testing them but i also know that around 120 to 140mph these wheels don't like the centrifugal forces placed on them and tend to not hang around on the hub, now knowing this no one i know or have seen has ever done a definitive test on these wheels and captured any data on camera, so, this is what i am going to do, i will get ther wheels i plan to ride put them in a controlled environment and spin them to a measured speed and see what happens, then spin them till they self destruct, this is the part i like the most hehe, i'll be my own mythbuster, i will test loaded and unloaded wheels, meaning i will put pressure on one side of the wheels to simulate running on a flat surface, i will work out a basic weight displacement for each wheel then put that amount of appropriate pressure on the wheel.

now with all the wheel destruction talk you'd think i would have sponsorship for all this, well actually i have none, all of this is comming out of my own pocket, a pocket that is getting lighter and lighter by the day unfortunately, i knew that this challenge was going to cost allot of money from the get go so i am not worried about my debt, i am worried though without sponsorship i may have a board but no way to pay to break the record haha, now that would be funny, at least i'd have the worlds coolest sausage cooker HAHA

On another note i have mentioned that i want to max out the board and motors eventually, so for this it means a big long strait.............hmmmmm where could i find one? i know! a salt flat! but these wheels won't hold up to the harsh salt wear, that's right which is why i am looking at alloy wheels, yup, taking a note from the land speed record cars i will be looking at alloy wheels for the salt flat runs, if only i could do the same for the road based runs i'd be set :)

PEACE!

hi and welcome, thanks for popping in, it's taken a long time just to get to this point, but i can safely say i am well on my way to breaking the land speed record, i have paid in full for the most powerful Jet Turbine engines available for their size, that are currently being built and should be arriving here by the end of December or early January.

I have already spent over $38000 on just the engines alone and will be in debt till i'm 60 by the time i'm finish, but we all have demons we need to vanquish, this so happens to be one of mine, i have dreamed of this since 2003, though back then it was rockets i was looking at, i came to the conclusion that having something that is uncontrollable attached to my board was a bad idea, hence when i thought of a Turbine motor.
Years later but no closer to my goal a good man by the name of Joel King set the land speed record at 184.6kph the lucky bugga, i knew i had to really pull my finger out, i contacted every major and minor sponsor in Australia and in the US to see if anyone would help me with my quest, but to no avail, at times it's it does seem ludicrous to me to pursue this record but it's not something a can just switch off, streetluge, just like this jet luge are in my blood and i am not myself if i am not perusing both.

i still have allot of testing to go and will be working on getting trucks wheels and bearings sorted, as at the moment i have none of any to sit my board on, unfortunately with the design of my board i have to build it around the trucks so construction cannot begin till i have the sett of trucks i will be using for the record, the problem i have now come across is the trucks i want to use are no longer made and i am told another version will not be available till mid winter, i think another alternative may need to be sourced.

i have ordered two different types of wheel that i will be testing to see what one handles high speeds under load the best, i will video my test and show you all the results, i can't wait to break stuff hehe.

bearings are sorted and i will be running ceramic bearings, i have raced on these bearings for years and i love them, they have never let me down once, i just hope the one time the may let me down is not at 200+ kph, well we'll find out ;)
